First check ur burner if its okey with another computer.
Go to ur bios(Press F2 or Del when mother start) and see if the mother board detects the burner.See ur motherboard manual for details.
If ur bios doesnt detect ur burner, then there is a problem with connecting the burner.
Set the jumper of ur burner to master (see burner manual) and then connect with the IDE cable alone(dont use another drive with the same cable).Plug the power connector.
Then check the bios again.
check that all drives in bios is set to auto mood.
If u dont have previous experience with bios handling, dont do it
First read ur motherboard manual .

it is likely a driver issue.
check that in the device manager. right click my computer - go to properties then hardware and device manager. if there is not problem you need to make sure your dvd software is updated to support your drive.

Although Windows XP may recognize most of your hardware, it's best to install your hardware's driver prior installing your equipment. Try it, your problem will solve.
