That happened with me.
In my case, I didn't have enough skin to have it pierced (but got it done anyway) and what happened was the skin stretched, making the jewel piece push away from my body.
I too was annoyed when that happened 'cause I pretty much just wasted around $70 (plus jewelry).
So, your bellybutton probably wasn't fit for a piercing or your body just naturally rejected the foreign object (which happens some of the time with piercings (and even surgeries)).

Hi,
you could be having a reaction to the metals used in the belly button rings. Even if the metal part that goes though your skin is surgical steel, your body can react to the pretty things that are attached to it.
If that's the case you should only wear 9k gold or white gold.
PS mine took over 6 months before it felt comfortable and still can start to hurt again if my clothes get court in it.

You may have tried to change it too soon. Washing it 2x's daily with tea tree soap for 6mos. to a year is necessary before you try to put a different belly ring in.
This piercing takes a lot longer to heal than any other piercing.

don't loose heart, you can have it redone, some people need to leave in the peircing longer at first.Extend your leave-in time 4-6 months longer then suggested. I had to have my earrings redone 3 times and on the 3rd time I had to leave them in for over a year in order for it to hold.Everyone is different!

awwww- go to a different piercing salon and make sure you get "surgical stainless"
i've known girls that had a lot of trouble at first but eventually worked through it.
bellyrings are hot, baby-keep trying.
