I am 72 years old and continue to work and pay into SS. I have received benefits for eight years. Each year my check increases by a very small amount due to my continuing to pay into SS. However, I do not see any increase due to cost of living. Last year my 96 year old mother received a very large cost of living increase; I did not see a similar increase. How can I check to see if I am receiving cost of living increases on a regular basis?

Find the nearest Social Security office and go talk to them. Get the person interviewing you to check on it for you. She or he can pull up your whole file right there in the office. If you haven't been getting your cost of living increases she will be able to handle for you and file a claim on it.
Good luck, you worked and paid into it all your working life you have earned it.

Each year everyone who receives SS gets a cost of living increase. Before the beginning of the new year you should receive a letter stating how much you will be receiving starting the beginning of the month. If this has not been happening, you need to call the 1-800 # and either talk to a Representative, or request a paper that has all your money that has been paid to you from SS.

You can call your local Social Security Office or visit their website. The cost of living increase may be included in the statement you get every year telling you what to expect next year. The only way to find out is to contact them.
