They are electric wires in the glass, their purpose is to defrost your back glass, or melt the ice and or snow. On the dash of your car will be a button labeled Rear Window Defroster. Punch it and it will light up, sending an electric current through the wires, creating heat, (similar to your toaster or electric cook stove) that in turns melts the ice on the back window. Quite often the switch will cut off before the ice is completely melted. You can push the button again if necessary.

Those are for judging the height of te vehicle behind you... if it comes up only 1 high then its a car, 2 high its a SUV, 3 high its a truck, 4 high it's a 4 wheel drive truck, 5 high then you better step on the gas slow poke cause you're about to get rear ended!

Or... the honest answer, it's your window defroster. Some vehicles used to have antennas in the window but only on the front window.

the back window defroster. next time the back window frosts up push the button for the back window defroster and watch how it melts the ice so you can see better. It's usually near the a/c button.

the lines on the window are there to defrost the window, electricity travels through the wires making them get warm melting ice.

The rear defroster. They heat up to dispel the fog that gets on the rear window. There's a button on your dashboard.

i own a repair shop,and that would be the rear window defroster on it,,it helps melt ice off it in the winter time ,and also heps keep it clear for winter driving,,good luck i hope this help,s,,,have a good x-mas.

They are probably for the defroster and/or the antennae. Thats what they are in my car.
