I actually have two favorite songs. One is "Sixteen going on Seventeen". Leisel, the eldest daughter sang this one with Kurt in the movie, as it's a song about a young girl who's learning to become a woman. It's an entertaining number in the movie but I think the song relates to women of all ages and it makes me smile when I think of it.

My favorite song of the movie has to be "Edelweiss". Although it does have a sad but beautiful melody, the message behind the song is powerful. As the Germans were closing in, this moving song was sung as a tribute to thier homeland which they loved dearly and to bring a sense of unity and peace to the situation at hand. For me it evokes courage, and that is why I love this song.

Edelweiss Lyrics:

Music: Richard Rodgers
Lyrics: Oscar Hammerstein
Musical: "The Sound of Music"

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white,
clean and bright
You look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow
may you bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow forever.
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever.

I love all of the songs in this musical because it is my favorite, but the two that stand out for me is 16 going on 17. I love this part because Liesl is finally becoming a woman and feeling all the butterflies and excitement of someone liking her for the first time. Also the song "I Must Have Done Something Good" was the best because it is finally where you see Captain Von Trapp with his guard down. He is madly in love with Maria and doesn't care if she knows. It's so sweet to think of the words as well. To know you did something good in your youth to recieve such a wonderful gift in the future.

I loved the song Eidelweiss, when Capt. and his daughter are singing it together and then at the end when he is singing it again, it brought tears to my eyes.
But I also love Climb every Mountain, when the Mother Superior sings it. I sang that when I was in grade school, many, many years ago.
Maria, I loved that song, cause it reminds me of my grand-daughter and I love her so much.
Actually I loved the whole show and all the songs. I saw that movie when it first came out in the 60's.

I liked the song the children sang, just before they went to bed. I just thought how much more pleasant babysitting would be if kids really said goodnight and went to bed without any fuss. I never got all the words though.

"Maria" & "Eidlewiess"
"How do you solve a problem like Maria? How do you catch a cloud & pin it down? How do you find a word that means Maria? A Flibbertijibbet a will-o'-the wisp a clown!" That one reminds me of my silly daughter & I just think Eidleweiss is pretty.
