I read that in a study, duplicate resumes were given to employers with two different names. One name was off a list of names that members of another study ruled to be "more traditional." ie: Matthew, Sarah, David. The other name was from a list of names the same study had ruled "moderately untraditional" like Roxanne, Jillian, Taegan. The names ruled "untraditional" like Larksong and Moonbeam were left out of the second study all together.

Anyway- the study concluded that those with "traditional" names were twice as likely to be hired than their equally qualified counterparts!!

I want to know if people out in the YA world have ever thought about this, or have even caught themselves doing it?

Yes I do. But I never really thought of it before.
Like when I meet a guy named Chris, I automatically think that this guy is real clean and wears sweaters with a button-up shirt underneath with the collar out. And his hands are way too clean, like he just got done washing them.
Or a girl named Jackie, I picture an outgoing, free loving fun person.
Don't people grow up with the influence of thier name?
I mean if I subconsciously predetermine what someone is like just by hearing thier name ...then there are more people out there that do it too.
So it must have some sort of impact on how that person turns out as an adult.

I do believe we all do subconciously and for a lot of different reasons, it is just being human. I personally don't think anything wrong with it. Especially with foreign names it gives one pause. I also do believe anyone that says they don't is not being truthful.

Well...Im not proud of this and I dont think it is ok, but honestly yes. I have done that. I think that for some reason we associte names with personalities sometimes, for example a girl named "Jessica" I automaticly think she's probably slutty. "Jason": cool guy, "Holly": sickly sweet person. "Earl": old fat man...
This is very very stupid, I know... but, hey! Its just an opinion!
