I think he's doing a good job. Drafting Donte Whitner and Ko Simpson in April sets him up for the next decade there.

He's done a great job. He has transformed the franchise from smoke screens and underachievement to accountability and overachieving, but it is early so far as judging his draft and FA signings go. What does seem certain is that Marv has a plan and he follows the plan, regardless of whose the sexy pick or the biggest splash in free agency.

Let me add that Merz has played at LG(against the Pats), and he performed well, and that Pennington is playing better and ought not be replaced so soon. No player should be replaced so quickly, and his physical talents are equal to those of a tackle you could snag in the first. What we need is a mammoth red zone target like Jarrett, and some help at guard...

Most critics panned his first draft, but it turned out to be one of the better drafts this year. Especially when you consider all the rookies that they've been playing, and how well they've been playing...

Rd. 1 #8: Donte Whitner - Will be their starting strong safety for years to come.
Rd. 1 #26: John McCargo - Injured. Jury is still out on him.
Rd. 3 #70 : Ashton Youboty - Yet to play.
Rd. 4 #105 : Ko Simpson - Another starter for years to come.
Rd. 5 #134: Kyle Williams - Starting at the nose tackle position. High-motor player.
Rd. 5 #143 : Brad Butler - Yet to play. I think he has alot of promise though. He played RT at Virginia when D'Brick was playing LT. Many opposing defenses moved their best pass rusher to Butler's side during games, and he held his own.
Rd. 6 #178 : Keith Ellison - Filled in for Spikes when he was injured and played very well. You could see him starting next year if Fletcher doesn't re-sign with the Bills.
Rd. 7 #216: Terrance Pennington - Currently starting at RT. Has struggled.
Rd. 7 #248 : Aaron Merz - I don't think he's starter material.

So not bad at all for a first draft. His free-agent signings, however, were not as good.

Larry Tripplett (DT from the Colts) was their biggest signing and he's been an adequate addition.

Tutan Reyes (LG, previously with Carolina) has been a bust and is no longer starting.

Matt Bowen (SS, Washington) was suppose to be their starter at strong safety, but has yet to play a game.

Kiwakee Thomas (CB, Jacksonville) is their starting nickelback, and, like Tripplett, has been adequate.

Peerless Price (WR, Dallas) has been a nice re-addition, and a quality #2 WR.

Robert Royal (TE, Washington) has been a quite disappointing in the receiving game. He has dropped quite a few balls.

Melvin Fowler (C, Minnesota) has, yet again, been adequate.

Anthony Hargrove (DE) was acquired in a trade with St. Louis. He's got good size, very good speed for a man of his size, and he's only 23. So provided he gets some more playing time, I think he'll be this season's best pick-up.

So, to review:
Draft Grade: A-
Free Agency: C+ (however, given the owner's limited funds, he did the best he could do).

Levy's true test will be next off-season when he has to try and re-sign Nate Clements and London Fletcher. Also, if he wants his QB, JP Losman to continue to improve, he's going to need to upgrade the right side of his offensive linemen (i.e. use 1st round pick to draft a RT).

All in all, the future looks bright for the Bills so Levy must be doing something right.

he's doing a pretty good job of changing the direction of the Bills. I think that he could have traded down for Donte Whitner, thats the only knock i can really think of right now.

I'm surprised that Buffalo is competitive, their offense--especially at qb--needs improvement. But otherwise he has done well.
