Boric Acid, sometimes called "Borax", is the safest of all pesticides - from cockroaches and ants to fleas and termites - and a biocide against fungus and mold. Boric Acid has been proven across generations, and has numerous usages.
Boric acid/borax used to be widely used in dusting powders and in a borax and honey preparation that was given to teething infants on their soothers.
A single large ingestion of boric acid/borax can cause gastrointestinal tract irritation.
Boric acid was first prepared by Wilhelm Homberg (1652-1715) from borax, by the action of mineral acids, and was given the name sal sedativum Hombergi. The presence of boric acid or its salts has been noted in sea-water, whilst it is also said to exist in plants and especially in almost all fruits (A. H. Allen,
Boric Acid and Borax are basically the same thing. Boric Acid has a few more refined uses.
