The agencies that charge money, look online for auditions, just as actors do, however they charge the actor for the information.

You must decide if you want to find your own auditions by looking online or at Backstage.com

Unless you are a union actor, the ONLY Talent Agencies that will work with you will ask that you pay them.

The only case an agency should charge anything is if its and extras casting agency and you are a non-union actor. No more than about $25 even then. It is also required that talent agencies are franchised under both California law and SAG rulings.

It is not okay to use a cating agency that charges money. Don't go to the BBB that is a joke. Anyone that wants to charge you money for an audition is a scam. A real agent will not take any money until you get a job.

Nope.
That means they're a scam, and it's also illegal.
Thte exception to this is, some extra agencies will charge a small fee (like maybe $35) to take your photo to keep on file.
But by definition, an agent is supposed to make his money by taking a percentage from the work they get you.

go to the BBB and look them up! If an agency wants money for sponsoring you up front, this is a Red flag that they don't have the pull to market you properly. furthermore many of these agency's are just taking money and not delivering. save your $$$ for something real. If it sounds to good to be true, well it usually is

The basic rule of thumb for actors is: an agent/manager should NEVER ask for money up front. They earn their money by getting you work, and then collecting a percentage of your pay from the jobs they find for you. There should NEVER be an in-advance FEE for their services.

It's like a lawyer working on a contingency basis...it's understood that they'll take a percentage of what they get for you, but they get NOTHING until then.
