i downloaded a video from ARES when i tried to open it didnt and said that file's protected

Get VLC Media Player; it can play anything and it's completely free.

Usually if a file is protected, you will have to obtain permission from that website. It's called Digital Rights Media (DRM), an attempt to stop someone from pirating the stuff. Most of the time a block will pop up asking if you want to obtain a license for DRM material. Check with the website cause I have no clue what ARES is, maybe you got to be a member or something. what kinda video is it? and you may need to open it with windows media player,and let it download a codec,or something
