Good question. Seeing another individual reading the newspaper does make it seem as if you're missing out on something!

Because one sitting in a table without a newspaper and nothing else to do, gets bored and looks to find ways to kill his time.

That's because humans are 'group animals' by nature unlike tiger. That's why humans who live in solitary lifestyle are normally not as happy as those who have active social life. By nature, human needs to communicate and mix around to stay happy. Thus, when we do same thing together in a group fashion, sub-consciously we will feel it is nicer. Free to comment. thanks.
