barbie is bad for girls and women in general ,because she seems so perfect, she has a perfect body, and she is a standard society wants that women need to become, when women dont measure up with how barbie looks like, when her lifestyle is not followed , women develop self esteem and some even suffer from anorexia, its really bad to see women in this light that they become too perfect or too thin, men expect you to become like barbie, its unfair because women must be able to live their life, another thing barbie and ken symbolize celebrities, celebrities that dont really depict real life, they are made of plastic, fake, yet children are subjected to fake ideas about how men and women should be, they want to standardize us all in becoming like barbie and ken, we have varioius choices and individuality, ken and barbie, destroy our individuality by being too perfect, too plastic and fake.

Barbie and Ken have quite a powerful and (arguably) negative impact on how young kids process and understand gender, body shape, difference etc. They are largely unreachable stereotypes and aren't anatomically correct - very confusing! Some people could argue that Barbie's 'example' can make young girls more susceptible to eating disorders, wanting plastic surgery (and idolising Paris Hilton!) etc. When I was little I used to cut one Barbie's hair really short and make her kiss the long-haired Barbie! Hmmm.

Little girls that play with them don't even know what gay is, atleast they shouldnt. Barbies are not gay, its gay people that want them to be gay.

well...one bad thing is that it gives bad body images for girls, since barbie has a very impossible figure to have. Similarly, it assumes that all people are straight and have to fit into a specific box! But there are lotsa good reasons too tho

Who says that they are bad? This is an absolutely terrible assignment. The instructor is inflicting his/her views on the students! I grew up with these dolls and do not think they are bad; they are simply dolls!!
