Oh my, you hit right on the spot. Actually, Robert Gates conducted various intel and special forces operations in Afganistan during the Soviet invasion.
It is true, an undeniable fact that Bin Laden was trained by the CIA. That's why NATO forces are having a hard time to capture him now.
He helped funnel BILLIONS of Dollars into the pockets of the Mujahadeen fighters and gave them large caches of weapons, especially Stinger surface-to-air missiles to counter against the threat of Soviet aircraft.
Of course, the Afghan Mujahadeen were the teeth that caused the US plan of causing the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was a total victory for the US over the Communist Soviet Union.
Now the same extremist entity that was created is now fighting for the cause of Palestine. Now, thanks to the war in Iraq, the Middle East is set to politically and military explode one day. That extremist entity is now haunting the US politicians right now.
The consequences of an attack on Iran and an Iran-Saudi war are incalculable.

I think I'm inclined to be a bit more concerned about the fact that some "unnamed government official" supposedly held on to copies of any part of a "top-secret military intelligence" brief and released it to the press. Quoting the Bible or any other book on a cover sheet is not illegal, but what that person did sure is. Of course I'm sure that was overlooked by GQ, ABC and you because... it was Rumsfeld and Bush they were illegally leaking "top secret information" about. But the whole world would come to a grinding halt and heads would roll if anyone dared to do such a thing to Barry, right?

HAHA ... wow! You're brilliant! How did the mainstream media, the sober senators (basically all of them minus Uncle Teddy), and the political watchdog groups all miss this?
You might want to consider laying off the crack pipe before using Yahoo Answers.
