I just got new tires 1200 miles ago on my 2002 nissan altima and I feel every imperfection in the road while driving straight. Every time i turn it feels fine but the tires feel like they have a mind of their own while traveling straight and send the feel of every bump through the steering wheel. Its a very unnerving feeling and I wish i could just get tight steering back. Could the tires not be balanced? What are some other possiblities that could be causing this?

Yep Balance or they put the tires on with an impact wrench. Take it back and ask them to recheck the balance. it is possible one of the weights flew off. It happens. Be sure and rotate 3-4K and you will get 50K out of any tire as long as alignment is good. You could have some loose steering, have that checked. Take someone for a ride to show them what is wrong, especially if they say it is OK

There are a lot of things to check.
First, did you get the same size tire? If you got a low profile tire, they will give you a bumpier ride.

Did you get a high quality rated tire or low? (Z rated is the best)

Did they put the proper amt of pressure in them?

Alignment, balance, loose lug nuts, damaged rotors from tire installation, and/or other damage could have occured at the shop.

Start checking these things and go from there.

Alignment, tires may not be balanced, you could have a bent rim on one side and it throws off the alignment all over the car. You will wear the tires down unevenly if you let it go too long. Let the people you bought your tires from check it out. You should have a warranty.

i own a repair shop, and a lot of it may be because of the type tires that you had put on it,,there are soft rubber tires, and hard rubber tires, and the hard ones will ride like this, and its usually the expensive ones that do this also, and there's also the chance that they didn't get them in balance good when they put them on id have them rechecked thought just to be sure, and also check the air pressure,,that has a lot to do with the way tires ride and handle,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s,,,,have a good x-mas.

Check the tires for correct inflation.
Check for an uneven wear pattern on the tires.
If these are OK, get them balanced.

Uneven wear patterns can tell you a lot about the suspension and alignment. If the wear looks odd, get a professional to take a look.

when you got your tires changed, sounds like they didnt balance your wheels. you need to take it back to the place you had your tires changed for themto balance your tires.
