I've found myself doing this again as well, it's very disturbing because when you try to relax you can't because you know there is something you "should" be doing but anxiety makes you have a mental block. When I found myself doing this again it took days for me to realize what I was doing wrong and the anxiety got worse and worse. What I forgot to do was "live in the moment" and "let it all go!" If you don't know how to do this you should really learn how it is the cure for all anxiety and mental illness as far as i'm concerned. Maybe try reading a book called 'The Power of Now", by Eckart Tolle.

I'm not sure what you;r asking either but if its just gathering thoughts some writer's use a tape recorder set on auto voice so it records only when they talk and they just let the thoughts come out random then go back and put them in an order they can assimilate

I do not understand how you can get tired of jotting down your thoughts if you think they are of any value, and they are worth following on. I also think about a lot of things and I was so disorganised that i misplaced a lot of Intellectual Property, but now I write them down. i think your problem is that you have never used the thoughts you've written down, so you think it's a worthless exercise. Having thoughts and ideas is good, but doing something about them is even better.

Two things;
One, I noticed your choice of words. Call me anal, but I think our choice in words reveals a LOT about us. You said "I can never." Sounds as though you've already convinced yourself that it's not possible for you. More accurate, I think, would be "I haven't been able so far."
Two, try meditation, if you haven't already. There are many purposes to meditation, one being putting yourself in the present moment. The easiest way to do this is to create a single thought, image, word, or phrase in your head and repeat it, or concentrate on it, as long as you can. The key is not to get frustrated or pissed off when your mind wanders, because it will, but to just consistently but gently bringing your mind back to that one thought.
