An hourglass also known as a sandglass or sand timer, is a device for the measurement of time. It consists of 2 glass balbs placed one above the other which are connected by a narrow tube. One of the balbs is usually filled with fine sand which flows through the narrow tube into the buttom bulb at a given rate. Once all the sand has run to the buttom bulb, the device is inverted in order to measure another timer period.

I have no idea what the blue arrow is for, but the hourglass can be used for different things. Mostly people use it for time though. In some pictures its like an hourglass but if you look closely..its a man and a woman looking at each other. Its pretty neat!

don't know blue arrow but hourglass is an item used to measure time.
