Well genres in general are way to restrictive and shouldnt exist because all it is is a creative box that you have to stay in,i wouldnt consider either of those bands by those genre's.the best label i would put on Black Sabbath would be simply metal,i feel they were the first band to use that heavy of a sound and habe spawned countless metal/heavy metal etc. bands in their wake.Led Zeppelin i would consider way to ecclectic to be put in a hard rock genre, because every song has a different feel to it.they are essentially a blues based band and there music is just a heavier interpretation of blues.Black Sabbath stayed in the mold they created with the metal style of music, and Led Zeppelin's music spanned too many genres to count. Both are awesome bands, and which one is better is a matter of personal taste and perception

My opinion :
Black sabbath was the inventor of what we called as heavy metal music, they are a father for this music, we can say this cause in their music, we can hear such a lowtunes guitar riff by iommi, an amazing bass in fast beat, and a amazing voice by ozzy in vocal side. For the first time they use to play what we called acid rock music, this is very famous genre in England that time, but they make it heavier and full of guitar riff, that's what make them different that time. So then after they spread their wings to the world, they are amazed everyone with their heavy rock music, and then they are picking as a root for heavy metal music.

Led zeppelin have a root in their music, and during their first time, they play the music what we called blues rock, cause their root is blues music. In their music, led zeppelin never use like what black sabbath, they just explore the blues music. But what they play is really amazing, they mix the blues music with some fast tunes and high level of vocal, they never use many riff during their play. But still they are the biggest name beside black sabbath in hard rock and heavy metal music. Especially for John Bonham, he is the inspiration for all the drummer of heavy metal and hard rock bands nowaday,

returned in the day, whilst they first got here out, they have been seen Heavy metallic. yet as time went on and with each era they went from metallic to no longer ordinary Rock. by right this moment's time-honored they do no longer seem to be ordinary Rock. some might even say Blues Rock.

Because Black Sabbath had an even heavy sound so thy in a sense reinvented "heavy metal" which slowly gave birth to heavy metal of today. And when you look back the metal of today isn't really like Zeppelin in any way.

actually black sabbath was considered ACID ROCK,,, around here anyways, and Zep was Hard Rock......
Heavy Metal is More Driving than Hard Rock... Hard Rock has more structure to the songs...
Check out Judas Priest ... Heavy Metal... Pretty repetitious,, not many changes....same with old Sabbath....Then Zep has more changes, more feeling....less driving... ..not to say anyone of them is better music... I love it all..

Because the way they sound. Black Sabb has that thick, heavy, guitar-and-drums-centered sound, characterised by the use of highly-amplified distortion. Led has a more of a rock sound which usually includes a vocal melody that is supported by accompaniment of electric guitars, a bass guitar, and drums, often with a strong back beat.

Led Zeppelin is more commercial / radio friendly thats why, its not heavy metal

Black Sabbie is more agrresive in both lyrics/instrumentals, in other words not rock....not plastic ...but pure metal
