I was curious to see if some of the derogatory (pardon me if the spelling is off) terms in rap music offends you. I'd love to know your thoughts. Thanks.

What I am offended by is the fact that they embarrass themselves. The world believes these false images and believes that this is what American females are.

I wish that everybody would go out and get a copy of "Hip Hop we got Your Kidz". This video documentary exposes what they as rappers think of you as consummers. Mostly everything they have is rented and they don't own not one bit of it!

Not only are they ignorant and cannot use proper english or spell, they instigate violence, advocate pornography and the prostitution of women and drugs. Is this what they think of their own mothers? They diminish the ideals that so many worked hard to obtain. They have done a greater dis-service to society than any other group of ill talented entertainers. They Don't know a C major from an F minor. They can't write real music or read it. For over thirty years we have all heard the same old beat or plagerized music of Holland/Dozier/Holland the real music writers!

Not at all. The only way it would be offensive is if I were to see myself as a s-lut, ho, b-itch whatever. I KNOW I'm none of those except maybe a b-itch (and that's more like a compliment!) so it has no effect on me. There are also a few women rappers who use sexually explicit and derogatory terms towards men in their music. Lil' Kim is one of the best! I actually like the hardcore stuff most of all. The louder the better! (I just won't play it when my mom is in my car!!!)

Rap music doesn't offend me but the words in some rap music I would avoid mainly because it's not up lifting for me personally. I have listened to Christian rap and liked it. I like most music but it also depends on the lyrics and content in songs because that's what goes into my mind. What we put into our mind is what can also affect us to some degree.

I watched a movie called honey and liked the protrayal in the movie because she was aiming to help others and the message of the movie was inspiring. No it wasn't Christian but still it had it's good points that I liked. I like to learn about other cultures even if I am not personally into it my self.

No, Not at all. Growing up, I mostly listened to rap. I still love it. Just because some things are offensive towards women, doesn't always mean that those are the artist's true feelings. Besides, if you buy into everything you hear, your a dumba.s.s.

I am sure you're asking this of the "younger set," but I am in my 50s and of course not the age group to which rap is marketed.

But, yes, I do find it offensive. Anything that demeans and cheapens women is offensive to me.

If someone wants to listen to this music (some of which I know isn't offensive, by the way), then please roll up your car windows so the rest of the world doesn't have to hear it, too!!

Good question!!

I find rap offensive not because I'm a woman but because it is a sad statement about today's society. I find it offensive as a human being.

I do not find it offensive. I find it to be not even a music but a hammer beating on my head.

As any kind of music rap reflects mentality and culture, or a lack of it, of certain part of society.

Yes, I do. It degrades women and displays them as sex objects and makes women look cheap. I really don't understand what people like about it. You can't understand most of the words, and when you do, you really wish you hadn't heard what you just did. It's also way to repetitive, and full of garbage. I especially don't get why women listen to it when it discriminates by comparing us to objects and symbols.

Yes, it is very offensive to be degraded on the basis of my sex alone. It's even worse to know that people actualy pay money to buy the CDs!

In a word: yes. Mainstream rap is a horrific invention and does nothing but promote violence and condone it.
