actually the stem cell research bill passed the Congress with a majority of Republicans.. the president vetoed it.. so I don't think either party is more against... just seems the President..

The GOP has given the most oppostion to stem cell research, no matter what some of those repsonding may claim. The Christian Right, for some very ill-informed and misguided reasons, have decided it is immoral to use embryonic stem cells for medical research. Under the current law such stem cells can be simply thrown in the trash, but can't be used to try and cure the ill. It is simply moronic.

Embryonic stem cell research is what most Republicans are against. It destroys embryos.
Most Republicans are against government funding of the research.
I am a Catholic, Christian, and right wing conservative. I support most stem cell research. I hold the two above positions.

Oh, and to clarify your question, republicans are against federal funding of embyo stem cells, which have so far shown zero promise for any cures. This decision is due to their belief of life at conception and that it is, as the constitution states, the governments job to protect the life of every citizen and certainly not fund what they consider death.
