I've set my browser to empty the temporary internet files when it closes, but it doesn't do it. I've done this in the "advanced" section of internet options, under "security." I click on the box that says "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed," and click on "apply," but it doesn't work -- the files are all there after I close the browser. I've tried to repeat the process, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks

You could manually delete all the files by doing this:

Go into Internet Explorer
Select Tools
Then Internet Options
Then hit Settings in The General Menu under Temporary Internet Files
After that, another window should pop up, select View Files from there.
That will bring up your Temp Folder for IE.

Try Mozilla Firefox. This browser will empty the "trash" as promised. IE will do it too but it needs some extra steps on your part, which was already addressed by someof the people who answered you. What is harder to get rid of are the tracking cookies and the pop ups (most annoying).
By the way, if you will install Firefox like I suggested, check the IE now and then. It will still be in your conputer as an unused browser and it will still the same cookies, temp files and all even if you never used it.

You may need to reboot your computer before the changes will take place.
There always seems to be glitches some where in all computers. Now it doesnt take much to fill up the temp folder. Are you going back online to an internet page to check the internet folder. Because if you are then one page can add a lot of files there.

You might have your history settings adjusted to keep track of sites that you visit, or autocomplete turned on.

Also if you are using some dial up "internet accelerators", they keep info in your temp files to make your pages load faster. Download a program on the net called Ccleaner from download.com and you'll remove all those temp files.
