It can't be "made". It can be captured or split from water. Normally electrolysis is the most economical route! :-)=

There is no easy way to make hydrogen atoms. To make hydrogen molecules, usually you stick a circuit through some water with one copper end and one zinc end and turn on the electrical current. This process is called electrolysis. There are also ways to get H2 from hydrocarbons, but those are more obscure.

Hydrogen cells are being touted as the fuel of the future, but it uses far more energy to get the hydrogen in the first place, than is actually gotten from the hydrogen cells themselves, so it's not really a green fuel at all.

Assuming you want to make hydrogen to fill a small balloon or ignite and make a small bang, the best "home" methods are :-

1. zinc or aluminium and dilute hydrochloric or sulphuric acid
2. aluminium and sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) solution.

Exercise extreme care. Both the above compounds are corrosive and will destroy human skin. Be careful with your eyes.

take a glass of water, place the leads of a DC converter into the the glass and turn on the converter (AC doesnt produce H2 Gas) the leads will start to bubble. the negative pole will be producing h2 gas (the most bubbles) and the positive O2 gas (less bubbles)
