Budding, binary fission, fragmentation, sporulation, parthenogenesis are all forms of asexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction allows for rapid population growth to exploit nutrients available only for a brief time (algae, bacteria, fungi, protozoans for example). Asexual reproduction increases the size of a multicellular organisms (growth in size of the body). Asexual reproduction allows for repair and replacement of tissues and organs such as replacement of lost skin cells or mucus membranes.

Let's not forget the clones. Cloning is asexual. Most bacteria simply divide into to functioning cells, and sometimes they conjugate to exchange bits of data; but since they're sexless, that would be considered asexual reproduction, too.

Parthenogenesis is a form of asexual reproduction done by some reptiles. this sometimes occurs when a male and a female are so isolated that a female must "clone herself to allow the species to continue.

Binary fission. This occurs, for example in bacteria, wherein a cell just makes duplicate copies of its genetic material and divides into two cells, both of which will then have identical genetic material.
