Considering that he likes a good swig of liquor now and then, I am open to suggestions. What type of liquor, if any, do you consume around Christmas? It depends on the preferences of the recipient. A good gift of liquor is one that is rarer, more expensive.
My favorite liquor is rum so I have a taste for Appleton Spiced rum--it's Jamaican and it isn't exactly easy to find in the U.S.
Some other men may prefer a good whiskey, Bourbon or Cognac. Others may like a fine tequila (I would give high regards to Patrón)
Try to find out what mixed drinks your recipient likes and then look for the finer versions of the liquor that go into that mixed drink.
The best rule of thumb that I go by is whether or not a Bar would have it. If a bar isn't likely to carry that brand of liquor, that means the brand you're buying is at the higher end.

Now this one is different and youve probably never heard of it. Get a bottle of Tuaca. I drink it on the rocks. It tastes like scotch but has a hint of vanilla and orange but not too sweet. Its about 25.00 a bottle. If you are old enough go a bar and ask for some. You'll love it and im sure your father will too.

Depends on the person. Wines are always nice. If they are more into hard drinks, a good scotch or brandy go well with a lot of things and be nice for shooting or drinking straight up. If they like sweet stuff, I would recommend hypnotic, as listed above, or maybe something like a good pucker or schnapps.

What does your father like to drink? Everyone has their own preferences and they don't like one thing or another. Personally, I love Bailey's in hot cocoa anytime of the year. My choices of alcohol do not change just because it's Christmas.
