Pom is right - is it asking too much for someone who wants my business to say please and thank you? Yes, I always say please and thank you but it is rare that the clerk assisting me to even greet me with a good morning. Anyone in customer service is given training and taught to greet the customer and always say thank you. Those words have gone out the door because some people in that line of work do not think it is "worth" it. Sometimes, I greet them by name (if I can see the name badge) and 95% of the time, they look up and smile and return the greeting. Some are just bad eggs and should have stayed home that day. :)

Its not alot, but considering how well the customers treats the shop assistants. From my experience, especially the Chinese (I'm one too), then to be very demanding and complains alot. While we do not have to attend to people like us all the time, the shop assistants has to.
Do we, as customers say please and thank you, enought. Remember, although we are paying their salaries, they are still provding a service to us, hence service-providers.

Unfortunately it is. Common courtesy has gone out of style in our modern world. But then, you also have to consider that those same assistants may have said please and thank you to countless customers before you who have only glared or snarled at them in response, and they are burned out. Maybe they think no one appreciates it anymore so why bother.

No it isn't to much to answer, but consider the times no one really cares to actually act decent any more. They figure it's a thing of the past.

I don't think it is asking too much. But I would carry it a step further and say that it is not asking too much for any of us to grant our fellow humans more common courtesy and respect. :))

I worked for a company that dealt with customer service, and we trained our employees to say please and thank you, if they didn't we'd want to know, and then we would take action.
But I completely agree with you, is it really that hard? I understand if you're being rude with them, but when you aren't, come on.

i know in my culture saying please and thank you are what you are brought up to say. i also know in other cultures to say thank you is an insult to them because they wouldnt do whatever it was they did if they didnt want to do it. they dont expect a thank you back.
society is changing, im not saying we shouldnt use these words but im saying we need to accept that this is way life is.
