you could try using the disk cleanup tool or defragmenting your disk would also help. to do this, go to the start menu, all programs, accesories, system tools. they should both be under system tools. you can also see what other programs you have running. check the little bar at the bottom right hand corner of your screen and if you see any programs that you dont need to be running, right click on them and hit exit. also if you have an old computer with a slow processer and not much RAM and you have windows xp installed on it it may just be too advanced for your computer, it will slow the computer down a lot. in that case you could buy more RAM or it may just be better to buy a new computer.

I do tech support, and about 95% of the time when I hear this complaint, the computer is infested with spyware. First, run a reputable spyware program (do NOT go to web sites that offer to "clean" your computer for free, as they usually install their OWN spyware!!!!); it's best to run two spyware programs in succession so that the second one picks up what the first one doesn't recognize. Next, to go to Start>Control Panel and open the Add/Remove Programs icon. After the list populates, you'll see a list of all the programs on your computer. Go down the list to check for anything that might be a spyware program (usually anything that is a tool bar, "bargain" hunter, "ad" program, and so on). Remove these from the list by highlighting the program you want to remove, and hit the Change/Remove button on the right. Read the instructions that may pop up VERY carefully - some actually do their best to direct you to LEAVE the thing on you computer. Finally, if you can't remove something with the above procedure, go online to determine if there is a known problem with a paticularly nasty piece of spyware/malware, and see what others have done to get rid of it; if it involves a registry hack/edit, I strongly urge you to take the machine to a tech to let him/her remove the registry entries for you. I work for a big company whose name you'd definitely recognize, and if it comes to registry hacks, we always send a tech out to do it, rather than having an end-user do the work and foul up their system.

Reformatting is using the restore disks that will take the computer back to factory settings. If you did reformat then your computer would be working like new. But I think you just tried system restore or perhaps tried to restore the Operating System.
Try defragging and diskcleanup. Try removing all the things you donot need from startup.

Why did you reformatted? No need for that. But it should go fast if you really reformatted. That means you...reinstalled windows and all the compinents, but I doubt thats what you did. Try defragmenting the drive. Try adding memory to your pc. Try deleting internet files and cookies. Try running a scan with a spyware software. Those things should do it.

Windows xp is a resource pig. I have never ever seen it work as efficient as other OS's. It is extremely vulnerable to viruses. You should reformat and use windows me or windows 2000. I wouldnt wipe my bum with windows xp for fear of contaminating me with poop.

try deleting programs that you don't use because your computer has a certain amount of memory if its full that slows it down and if you've recently added a new security system check your setting, that could affect it also
