They didn't even know it was there or what you could use it for until westerners showed them, so how are they any worse off?

It's not their oil, it's our oil.
Half a century ago, it was British and American petroleum companies that supplied the technology to extract the oil from the land in the Middle East. When the Arabs realized the extent of the fortune they were sitting on, they nationalized the land and stole the technology from the West.
The oil belongs to us.

they think it is exploitation, if you look at the gold, vanilla, coffee and other natural resources that were stolen from ther Inca's and South America and sent to Spain during the 1400's and 1500's. South American countries would be the Kings'of the world if they had access to their own resources. With communications being instantaneous, people think because we have an infrastructure, that we have stolen from others. They don';t know our history , they don't know about the Molly McGuire's, they don't care about the union movements or Samuel Gompers, they get a hold of TVs see what we have and see what they don't have and figure we're bad
