My friends Christmas lights over heated and set their living room on fire. No one was hurt, but you need to be careful.

I have always kept the lights on all Christmas Eve. Most of the lights now aren't even hot to the touch. Just try to pick certain times when you do leave them on and be careful.

Well always turn off mine until CHRISTMAS EVE then i leave them on all night. When my children where young i would tell them that Santa won't find our house if we didn't leave all the lights on and lay out cookies and milk...boy those were the days. Now my children are all grown and have there own families and i hope they tell there children the same thing.

It will be easier for you to accept turning them off, (it is still a fire hazard, I agree with your honey), if you set a certain time to turn them off each night. I plug mine in at dark and unplugged them at midnight.

fake or not.. there's that percentage you must adhere to. the just in case. always play it safe when you are not present turn things off.
don't end up being a statistic just in case.
fake catches on fire also. just one wire has to short out and smolder onto something on the tree... or a spark hits the carpet, rug, something near by.
i don't trust any objects enough to leave them on when i'm not around.

Oh my word... I hope people are reading your question and details. It'f a Fake Tree!!! You can leave them on overnight. Fake Trees are flame retardant... worst that it will do is melt. Now your tree skirt on the other hand may not be so lucky. Get a timer.

If it is a fire hazzard to keep it on all night while your asleep, wouldn't it be a fire hazzard to have them on at all? I suppose they COULD catch the tree on fire but it could also happen while your awake as well? I say keep them on, people have been doing it for years.

I wouldn't leave them on...just to be safe. This is the time of year when house fires are not few and far between...just to be safe, don't leave them on...pick a nite like Christmas Eve to leave them on. :)

I completely agree that they should be unplugged at night or anytime someone is not there to watch them.
Since there is no reason to leave them on, it makes sense to go with the safe choice.
