If you want to be a doctor, you first need to get an undergraduate degree and then attend medical school. When at undergrad, start checking the websites for the admissions requirements for whichever medical school you are interested in. The college's counselors may or may not be able to help. In my undergrad, the counselors actually gave bad/wrong advice which made it harder to graduate so don't always trust the school counselors. It's better to ask the medical schools themselves. Also, there's usually not a "pre-med" major. When people say they are "pre-med", they just mean they want to go to medical school but their actual major is usually a science related one such as Biology or Chemistry. Just pick any university's medical school and read through the Admissions page. Joining a campus club for pre-meds can also get you good info.

First you need to get your basic education out of the way. You can do this at a local college, University or online university. Then you will need to be a pre-med major this will involve a lot of sciences etc. Then you go to medical school, then intern, then you are a doctor! You should go to a local college and ask for some direction from an admissions advisor or counselor. Good luck!

Some ideas to explore for guidance to your profession . . . a career center at a high school, college, call another person in the profession of Family Doctor. Even if you don't know the Family Doctor...just tell that person what you are inquiring about...I'm sure they'd be flattered and give you some guidance. Also, when you seek out an avenue to inquire into, call more than one for a foundation of combined information to choose from.

If you're not smart enough to research this on your own, you probably wouldn't stand a chance in university.

To be a family doctor you would need an undergraduate degree and good MCAT scores so that you could get accepted into Med School. To understand how competitive entrance is, I know someone who had a 4.0 GPA in Biology for each of four years he was at university. He then won the university's prize for graduating student with the highest GPA in all of the Faculty of Science. He had above-average MCAT scores. When he applied to med schools he was initially waitlisted and only let in to a less-popular university when someone else dropped out. Do you really think you could compete with candidates like him when you can't even do your own research into how to BECOME a doctor?

you need to go to a 4 year university and get into the pre-med program- most people are biology or chemistry majors but you can really major in just about anything- I know two different doctors who actually have their bachelor's degree in accounting and in history... you go to med school after that. Contact different colleges and ask to meet with an advisor... they will tell you what you need to do. Good luck.

That's a medical degree. You'll need to do pre-med (biology, chemistry, physics, calculus) as an undergrad, and then go to med school. Exactly where you go from there is up to you, but that's the basic path.

Talk to your guidance counselor, that's why they are there. Or if you're not in school, go to a local college and talk to them.

You might want to try speaking with an academic counselor about what you want to do and how you should go about getting there.
