Do betta fish only make their bubble nests in a styrophone cup, or will they make them some other way. Will they still make them in a tank with a filter running, one of those filters that runs the water over the side of the tank into the water, sort of like a waterfall. I was just curious, kind of bored, so i wanted to just do some cool research ;)

Yup, of course, they will make their bubble nests whenever they feel comfortable enough to do so. If there is too much water current, the bubble nest will not stay together... but even with a filter, there should be lots of water in the tank is relatively still.

No they dont just build it in a styrofoam cup they build it wherever they feel like. They will attempt to make it with a filter running but the current will destroy it.

mine just made a nest in the corner of the tank... and turn off you filter and just have airation.
the water fall will destroy the bubble nest.

My betta fish always makes his bubblenest in a corner that is away from the filter. They make them frequently when they are comfortable with their surroundings & are ready to mate.
