Is life fair? It's a simple, almost childish question, but I think the way we answer it says something very profound about how we see the world. Some people say that life is obviously unfair because we are all born into a different lot in life, some more fortunate than others, and we are subjected to many forces outside of our control. But there's another train of thought that looks at the big picture, beyond your own life, and thinks that fortune and misfortune, survival and death all balance out, which enables life and nature to sustain itself. There are different ways to think about it. What do you think? From where you sit, is life fair?

No. Life is not fair. We all get dealt different hands in the game of Life and sometimes nothing can be done about it. Sometimes something CAN be done about it. Books could be/have been written about this subject. I don' t think all things balance out but I do believe that life is about doing the best you can with the hand you were dealt.
From where I sit, no. Life is not fair. I can see people with more priviledge and ability in life than me and people with less. I see people that cant battle diseases that drain the life out of them and people that have a genetic make up that will keep them active well into their nineties. People born with financial security, people born with disabilities and bad finances that will never make it out of the grind. I see people who are used as examples for how even the most miserable cases can overcome (whatever hardship). It's nice to have pep rallies but I think for those that don't overcome and they really try to, to the best of their ability it is the most they can do. Good for the effort however great or small it may be. I have worked in mental health hospitals where I have seen children who are victims of the worst brutalities imaginable and some of them have no chance for quality recovery because of permanent damage.
Some lives are just much more painful for some than for others.
Sometimes the most that can be done is to try and provide that one comforting moment, that one ray of hope or experience that helps a person with less get a leg up and make it through another day. You know what? Providing that little bit of care helps me too.
At the same time, I got out of working with brutalized children because just like war it can be very draining.

Life is not fair. Ideally, yes, life should be fair, but given the randomness of this world, life can never be fair--we are all victims of others actions even if we do everything right. The great equalizer for life being unfair is that life on this earth is not the be all and end all--there is an afterlife and there everything is fair, perfect and wonderful.

Life is never going to be fair for everyone, because the definition of fair is different for everyone & has to be. An example would be to give a disabled person the exact amount of help as someone else, when what they may need a little bit more help to be in an equal position.
I like believing the world is just... to a point, what folks do wrong does seem to come back & bite them in the ***.

Life will never be fair. You might not get the promotion, or the girl you want in highschool, the perfect house. People that you love will die or leave you. so to me life will NEVER be fair even if you are the nicest person in the world, something bad will happen that isn't fair, and you'll wonder why.

Life is not fair, because "fair" is inside your brain, and life happens outside of it.

What happens to you is a combination of your own efforts and random thing that happen in life. You can work hard and take pride in your achievements, or you can sit back and blame unfair life for not offering you opportunities.

To me, it's obvious that life is unfair as you have stated in part of your question. But that's not the problem. The problem is what are you going to do with your life (this very precious gift and blessing)?
