There are a few questions that need to be answered first

Is your friend an American Citizen?
When you say his Visa has expired, you mean his Visa from Mexico , correct? ( those visas are good for 6 months, btw )

Does he have his American passport? (I'm assuming he is an American Citizen here.) If he has his passport there is nothing she can do to stop him unless she has him arrested before he reaches the border. That's it.

Remember, re-entering the US has nothing to do with what Mexico may want. It's whether or not the US accepts his documents and let's him in. US Border agents couldn't care less about an expired Mexican Visa.

Does this make sense? If he's not an American Citizen, this changes the scenario and you'll have to provide more info.

I hope this helps

I dont believe a passport is needed right now, until January 2007. It should still be legal to cross the border as an american into the united states with a drivers license.

He is an american, should have the right to come back anytime.

Maybe he could try and get ahold of the American Embassy. There has to be American Ambassadors in Mexico. I understand that this girlfriend may know of loopholes in government to detain him, but if he hasn't broken any laws, his best bet is to find a legal professional to be on his side.
Good Luck.

He can get out any time he wants by presenting himself to the American Embassy. If he fears that, do what most Mexicans do, sneak in at night.

Call the U.S. Embassy to get information. Or call the local immigration authorities if you wish to avoid talking to the Mexican authorities. Good luck. They are very corrupt down there.

He doesn't need a visa to get back to the U.S. They aren't requiring those kinds of documents yet, but they will soon. I'm assuming by "American" you mean a U.S. citizen.

if he's not already in one... go to a border town.... walk into a cantina and ask around who knows somebody that will smuggle him into america!!!!!

the cost is about two thousand dollars through thru the border crossing and a little less walking across through the mountains!!!!!!
