Yes, she was buried alive when her car sank into a crack in the ground made by an earthquake... which was caused my a missile that Lex Luthor sent to the west coast.

Superman 1...his dad told him "It is forbidden!!" but he was in love with lois lane, who's car fell into a crevice, and she kinda "drowned" in the dirt...
So yes, she died, but then he turned the world back and saved her...
