dose anyone know if you can put an upright freezer on a heater vent? it is a small one. maybe about 4 1/2 feet tall. i want to move it, but was afraid if i put it on a vent, it may over heat or somthing. it has a 1 inch space on the back & both sides and a bigger space from the floor on the front. about 3 inches. don't want to damage it, b/c it's only 2 years old. if anyone knows , can you please tell me. thank you for your time :)

Here is what I found on google. Freezer. Avoid placing the freezer near a heat source,. such as a radiator, heating vent, washer, dryer or. furnace. Your freezer will have to work harder.

A freezer that small should be easy to move. Just keep it up right. You might get away with it if you take the grate off and block the vent with a piece of cardboard, and keep the vent closed. Otherwise I would suggest you move it. I had my freezer partially covering the cold air return, and had no problems.

If the only place available to set your freezer is over a heat vent, then I would recommend you cover the vent in such a way that it won't emit heat to your freezer... I'm taking that this is a vent that disperses heat into a room from your furnace ducts... But during the summer time when your air conditioner is running, you can remove the cover, and this will actually help the freezer work better by cooling the compressor when it runs...

You don't have to vent a freezer. A vent is for dryers and heaters, that only involves heat or gas. Your freezer does not put out any heat or gas. I have a upright freezer in my storage room, that is connected to my house, 23 years no problems. Hope this helps!

Your going to make the freezer work harder, which will shorten it's lifespan, it will cost more to run and you'll be wasting heat, other than that; using more energy than you need is not cool.
