I usually help them out with a little money, but if its a person who seems drunk already and claims to want more money for food I usually go buy something from a restaurant and give it to them to make sure they eat instead of drinking it all away.

No. There are many fake beggars. They live in comfortable houses. They get up and get into their beggars clothes. Sit on the corner and collect lots of money, tax free. I prefer to give to churches and organizations working with people. Giving on the streets may or may not be a waste. There is a school in New York which teaches people how to beg and earn a living doing it. That's just wrong.

I did one time in Washington D.C. I gave out cash to everyone. My purse was stolen from me while I was there. After I gave money to a woman, I turned around and saw her holding a big wad of cash. I was only 16 at the time.
I do not give cash to anyone now. I always protect my belongings. I donate to legitimate charities like habitat for humanity or the salvation army and John 3:16 missions. I feel that my money will be used for the right reasons there and not supporting somones street life who is unwilling to work and pay taxes.

I've given money to one that was playing music. If they simply beg, I will not give money to them. I don't live in a major city but when I go to Columbia, South Carolina, I ignore beggers. I feel bad for them but so many out there lie and use the money for bad things.

Yes one to five dollars and I usually tell them to get something to eat with it.
