I'm blonde and I always take choir and I'm currently a junior auditioning for the role of Sandy in Grease on Friday. I really want this part, and I've practiced the audition song "It's raining on prom night" countless times, but I've never had a huge part in any musicals at our school. (I did tech crew last year, and the year before that, I did a small speaking part in a musical at my old school) So there's new directors this year, and I think I might just have a chance, which kind of makes me more anxious. So anyone have some nice good audition advice to calm my nerves? Should I rest my voice? Should I practice the song? Should I relax? What should I wear? And so on... 10 points to the person who's most soothing and encouraging

Sounds like you have a lot of desire. That's great.

What to wear... would wearing something Sandy would wear sound too corny? Go for it. Dress the part.

A new director might be good for you. Since you've only had small roles this could be your chance to show someone new what you've got. I bet the same people get picked year-after-year. This is your chance to blow them out of the water.

I think what's important in any audition is to be yourself. While you need to love the part and make it known that YOU are the best one for it, don't lose yourself. Don't become so nervous you sound like a chipmunk. Take a deep breath, relax, and remember that these people are really rooting for you. They want you to do well and they will always give someone a second chance if you flub a little in the beginning. I auditioned for a musical once and started my audition song in the middle of the second verse. Nearly S**T my pants. But I went "oops", started over, and got the part. Be humble. No one likes a priss.

Practice your song enough to be comfortable with it. Don't over think it, be natural and you'll do just fine.

Some clothing advice: do NOT go to an audition in costume. You can dress to evoke that character, but auditions are not the place for an actual costume. For Sandy... a nice sundress? A skirt and cardigan for the 50s look?

Classical theatre audition clothing is black dress pants or a black skirt (that hits at or below the knee, think professional) and a red top (with no cleavage, just FYI). Wear character shoes if you have them. Wear flattering but not showy makeup. Your hair can be down, but should not conceal your face. Do not wear a hat.

If you get called back, wear whatever you wore for the first audition. That way when you walk on stage the director goes, "Oh yeah, her, I remember her."

Also, once your song is memorized, rest your voice. Drink lots of water to keep you voice hydrated, and make sure you warm up and run through your song once about an hour or so before your audition. Show up to the audition site at least a half hour early. And be nice to everyone, you never know what the runners tell the directors inbetween auditionees!

Break a leg.

Prepare as best you can. You need to be fully comfortable with it. Forget the auditors are even there. Just perform as you had planned it. You have to make a choice and stick to it. Relax before you go in and walk in with confidence(gives you great presence). Make sure you always speak torwards the auditors. I will tell you even if you do your best, they may be looking for something else, but auditioning is just another practice. I am headed for a conservatory audition, so if theater is what you really love, you have to be committed to it. The key is just be comfortable, and dont worry about getting the part. Just behave as if you already have it(but dont be obnoxious) and be yourself and youll be fine.

Singing is something that everybody can learn and improve. Of course, some are more naturally skilled than others, but even a poor voice can be overcome by dedication, practice, and more practice. Even if you're content to sing in the shower, there are some things you can do to improve your voice. This is probably the best online course to improve your singing skills https://tr.im/WmU1E

Just go in there and do your thing. If you want the part of Sandi, go in and act like Sandi. Show them how you can be shy, and meek, and then really belt it out, and show them what you are made of.

I think you need to do all of those things, relax, practice your song, then rest your voice.

I have difficulties calming my nerves too, but if you are confident, there should be no reason to be nervous. You will be great.

Go in there and show them what your made of and what youve got!

First, just take a deep breath and just relax. Do something that u like doing and to practice sing while u are doing it. Not singing the best u can do just regular singing like u r having fun. Before you audition just make sure u are relaxed-to get relaxed take deep breaths or count to ten. DOn't think to much about it if u do u will just confuse ur sefl. Just be calm and u will do fine.

You need to wear a really tight leather outfit and smoke a cigarette as you do the audition. As you sing throw back your head alot and do alot of spin moves. Get physical and wear spikey heels. And I aways like to pretend everyone in the audience is in their underwear like that Barney guy on Simpsons recommends. At the very end of your song take your last drag off the cigarette and throw it down on the stage and step on it with your high heels. I can assure you the part will be yours Good Luck and knock em dead kid.
