To set the record straight from some of the answers I've seen.. Bill Clinton Was impeached by the house of representatives, but was acquitted by the Senate by a large margin, not censored. Only the Senate can censure a president, and the last time that happened it was Jackson.
Clinton was impeached for perjury, or lying under oath (about a blow *job) However, he maintained 70% approval ratings even during the impeachment, and many believe that the impeachment was a partisan move by the republican congress.

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. Bill Clinton was indeed impeached by a vote of the House of Representatives on December 19, 1998. The charge was lying under oath in testimony given in a House investigation. He was impeached, but he was not convicted, and so he continued in office. Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson are the only two U.S. Presidents to have been impeached.

The House did indeed bring an impeachment proceeding against the President. Only the Senate can actually impeach him, but the House has to ask the Senate to do it. The House asked the Senate to do it, and the Senate voted not to.
The reason: he lied under oath during a deposition about having had an affair. This certainly does not qualify as an impeachable offense under the Constitution, which requires 'Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes.'

Because he lied under oath about the monica lewinski, thus he was impeached for purgury. Also, many of the unknowing individuals here will claim that Clinton was not indeed Impeached, but he was; impeachment is only the process of filing the complaint and sending a persident to court, he was not, however, removed from office.

they shouldn't have. The lie that Clinton told was during an investigation into Whitewater. The question about Monica was not pertinent to the case and therefore should not have been asked. Even if he lied about it, there should not have been a perjury charge as Monica was not pertinent to the Whitewater case. It was a witch hunt and an embarrassment in the history of this country.

He never was impeached he served 2 terms (8 years). That's all a president can serve. Just like Bush can't run for president again because he's on his 2nd term.

They didn't impeach him but they tried to and why, just partisan politics. They said he lied under oath.
