there's a lot of car seats that are convertible. They can be rear facing for kids 5-20lbs. and then turn them around for kids 20-30lbs.
There's also some that go all the way to being convertible booster seats as well.
I would look into something like that seen as how your daughter is probably past the 5lbs mark and probably quickly approaching the time when she doesn't have to be in a rear facing car seat anymore.

You can put her in a car seat larger than the infant seat since she is probably too big for the infant seat as long as you keep it rear facing until age 1. I bought the Britax Decathlon because it was rated the best and my son can use it up to 65 lbs. I found the Britax Marathon on websites or Ebay for cheaper so I might buy another one for my other car. If that's too expensive, Graco makes good car seats as well.

I buy graco, they are inexpensive and really reliable. My daughter is 8 months and uses it for rear facing and when she is a yr she will be forward facing with the same car seat. I bought the car seat at babies r us for 79.99 and I wondered why I bought my son a 159.99 carseat, when it pretty much was the same thing. Graco is a great carseat, and if you give it to a second hand store, later on, they'll give you great money for it, because Graco is easy to sell and mom's choose it over many things. Both my two yr old and 8 month old have grown up with graco. I have a graco double stroller that takes a lot of beatings, but still looks and is great.

You can get one car seat. Be sure to find out if it is rear- and forward-facing. Look for the 5-point harness, and READ THE BOX! Make sure that the car seat is "compatible" with the seat belts in your car! Have the clerk help you. There are SOOO MANY different types, and it's best to have someone who is up-to-date with all the lastest info help out. Good luck! (Congrats on the new car!)

If you have the money get a Britax or Radian, they can be rear facing until 35 pounds, which is much safer for baby's spine and can harness, forwards facing until 65-80 pounds. i wish i could afford one.
My 22 month old is still rear facing because he is only 25 pounds. He has a Graco comfortsport, which he's been in since 4 months-old.

This carseat works for babies, and if she is 8 months I think it's perfect. It can be installed rear facing (which she should be for another 4 months) and then it can be turned around and face forward after she turns one. The carseat can be used until the child is up to 65 pounds. It also come is many other color styles this is just the link that I picked. We love our britax, its currently on our third child and has handled very well, we just buy a new carseat cover with a fun print to make it like new. Hope this helps!
