I don't have any pain. I just have a big bruise near my groin area on my right leg. What can I do to promote healing of the bruise?
Should I use a heat pack or a cold pack on my leg?

If you just pulled your groin, AVOID HEAT. your injury is still in the acute phase of the healing process and HEAT will cause further inflammation and swelling to occur despite the immediate use of ice after heat. Use ice on your injury 15-20 minutes atleast 4 times a day. After about a week, the use of heat can be used. A new modality used in Athletic Training is the machine called HIVAMAT which activates the body's lymphatic system healing bruises. check with local sports medicine facilities for possible use. any questions or concerns email me.thanks

If it doesn't hurt, I wouldn't worry about it honestly. But to get rid of it quicker, heat will increase the blood flow and metabolic rate of the tissue. However, heat generally also causes more swelling. Therefore most sport medicine folks recommend if you are going to use heat, follow it with ice to keep the swelling down. Message might help a little too, but it can also irritate your skin.

Be careful with heat. I recommend warm moist compresses, a hot bath, shower or whirlpool. Heating pads can be dangerous, and I have seen pretty bad burns on people who have fallen asleep with them. Therefore avoid electric heating pads.

well, if you don't have any pain, what's the big deal about a bruise? if it really bothers you, try icing it. however, it doesn't really help unless you do it right after the injury. if it was a week ago, it is well on it's way to being healed.
