some are based on petroulem jelly- especially lipgloss- but that stuff comes from whale oil! i know- can be disguisting. also enriching and moisturizing lipsticks contain dyes, vitamens (especially e-for the skin), and aloe vera. but it also depends on the brand and label- different company's make their products from differnt things. read the label on a tube of lipstick and you'll find out what i mean ;-)-good luck girl!

I read in a book that most makeup is made out of shark liver.

It is made of :
Vaseline, Vaseline and castor oils, paraphine, wax palm, methyl paraben, dogrose oil and aroma compound.
