John Lennon's "Imagine" (1988) purpose, in my opinion was to bring about peace. He talks about everyone living life together and happy. He says he's a dreamer, but he's not the only one. In other words his dream is the same to other people and that if we work together it can happen.

Hope it helps

The song was released in 1971.

The purpose (I believe at least) is to point out that everything that society cares about so much. Everything that we hate about others isn't all as important as we think it is.

I believe he was trying to make people understand each other. To make people realize the issues we have such a big deal with are really not that big of a deal. We should love everyone for who they are not what they believe in. If we just imagined a world without these issues maybe we could change.

I think it was a very positive song.

LOL--John Lennon was dead in 1988!

The Imagine album came out in 1971. It was his second studio solo album. Imagine is viewing the people of the world as one people of one race the human race. Imagine if there were no borders, or possessions or anything else that seperated us as a people. What would we be like then? Would we live as one?

Circa 1971... Someone said 1988... He was murdered in 1980...

The purpose was to try to enlighten people to the thought that you can have peace if you put aside this world. Imagine living for yourself instead of living for others...

No religion, No governments, No possessions... Emptying yourself of anything and everything...

An impossible dream that cannot bear the light of reality.

Sorry I don't know when it was written, but he sang it because he was into all that peace, love, and non-violent protesting stuff.
It reminds me of "Come Together" by The Beatles.

he believed he was pushing true freedom when in fact he was just promoting selfish behavior on the premise of no consequences.
