Okay, how about a gift certificate to a major department store or to Best Buy, or "x" amount of free car washes or a nice scarf and/or a pair of gloves? Oooh, everyone loves a nice bottle of wine!

If you don't anything about him except for that, then I'm sure a gift card would be fine, it's a good impersonal co-worker type of gift. If you get him something like a rainbow sticker he might be offended, so don't even think about the fact that he is gay.

Don't base you gift giving upon the fact of sexual orientation. Look around their work area for clues as to what they like. Being homosexual is probably only a part of who they are as a person, and not necessairily what they want to be their primary identifier. Base your gift giving by the same standards you would for anyone else. Hobbies, Favorite thing or color, interests, things like that

I would think you'd get him the same kind of gift you'd get a straight 30 year old man. What does his sexuality have to do with gift giving???

Gay people, much like straight people, have interests that do not all necessarily pertain to their sexuality. 30 year old gay men are not all the same. If this is a serious question, just find out what his interests are and go from there.

The safest thing is a gift certificate! Find out what he likes. Not all gay people like the same things. What is his favorite movie, actor, musician, color, or animal? Dose he have a pet, you could get him something for them. -Timothy

Being gay has nothing to do with what kind of gift you buy him...unless you usually buy coworkers subscriptions to Playboy.
Just get him something nice and not too personal....Gift Certificate for a nice dinner, wine if he's a drinker, tickets to a show, whatever.

Some comments are just stupid and insulting. At my work we will have a gift exchange, I truly hope who ever gonna get my gift better not be gay insulting, I'll throw it to their face. Get a Giftcard any major store has them.
