At the moment Christmas only lasts around 7 months of the year. I'm thinking of patenting an idea so that it lasts 364 days a year - every day, in fact, except the old pagan Sun-god festival of the Roman Empire. We could send 'Bah ! Humbug' cards on 25th December.

Then we would be free to believe the fact that Jesus was born in April, when lambs were in the fields, and we could treat each other nicely all the time, not just once a year.

Is it a winner ?

Christmas as it's presently celebrated is a total farce. Everyone knows it.

Are you really allowing some corporate marketing firm bone head CEO shape your belief of what Christmas is? Do not get hung up on the date thing . It is an interesting discussion the "true origins of Christmas and all... but not much else. If you are fed up with the way Christmas is being hijacked. Start your own traditions , ones with meaning to you and your family. Do not ruin this experience for yourself because someone else's point of view is corrupt. Christmas is partly about fighting trends and commercialism to keep the traditions and meaning foremost in a celebration.

As for your additional comments, I now feel sorry for you because your pride and rebel self image is preventing you from having the celebration of your hearts true desire. Drop the sword and shield and embrace the good stuff before you become old and bitter, Ebenezer Jr.

Agreed. The "fake" Christmas sentiment and the patronisingly agressive marketing by multi-national corporations is becoming a joke.
I'm all for your idea.
