Personally, I think Shyamalan or Burton (or Alfonso Curan, again) would be my choices.

I would pick Chris Columbus because he was the initial (original) director of the movie. He directed Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, then he was replaced by Alfonso Cuaron, who was replaced by Mike Newell, who was replaced by David Yates... God, isn't that confusing?

To be honest, I hate the fact that they keep changing the directors because every director has an own opinion or view of how the movie should be like and this affects the connection and flow of the episodes in the series. I loved the first two episodes because they seem so much alike and it is obvious that they have been made under the wand of the same person: Chris Columbus. I loved what he did with the first two movies and he's the reason why the first two are my favourites. Starting with the Prisoner of Azkaban, all the episodes seem like they stopped following the actual story based on the book and they wanted to have a life of their own. They stopped trying to achieve the naturality of the HP books and they seemed like they were more focused on other modern aspects coming from Hollywoodian influences that have nothing to do with canon. It just seems like the natural flow of the story has been disrupted. It's obvious that all episodes are directed by different persons and that's very disappinting to me because it's like watching a kid grow under the care of a different parent each year. One parent tells him to eat sweets, the other one denies it. Lol. Do you know what I mean?

I'd probably go back to Colombus. I don't like how the movies are getting progressively darker. Sure the animations better, but the first guy knows how to follow what the others did in that respect. They need to pick someone who'll stay close to the story, respect the story and the actors, and not make it all dark. I mean, what's the good of a dark movie? You can't see a darn thing!

Peter Weir. He directed Witness with Harrison Ford and most recently Master and Commander or with Russell Crowe. I like his classic style and his ability to take a long book and make it work on film.
