Most of the Macs that Apple sells include everything in one box, so all you have to do is unpack it and plug it in. The only exception is the Mac mini, which requires that you have a display (monitor), keyboard and mouse. The Mac mini only includes the computer itself.
Apple doesn't provide internet service with the Mac. Macs that shipped with dial-up modems used to include a free trial of Earthlink dial up for a few months.
On the plus side, all new Macs have Wi-Fi capability built-in, and if the network is open (unencrypted), will even automatically detect it and ask you to connect to it.

I just bought the new MacBook (black) and a 60G IPod in August. It is ready to use when you get it. There's a short registration process that takes less than 5 minutes to complete but it's pretty much ready to go. A Mac AirPort can connect to any wireless signal as long as it isn't password protected. I don't have any problems connecting to the internet. Macs are definitely the best computers on the market right now. I love mine. What type of Mac are you getting?

It is ready to go after a little bit of set up. It's been 2 years so I don't exactly remember, but the instructions were easy to follow. You have to provide a connection either through a cable/modem, a dsl connection or other kind of phone connection (earthlink or something like that). I have no info on wifi, sorry.

I just got a Mac laptop, and it worked right out of the box - it has AirPort wireless built in, so you at least have to have that - also, your wireless need to be "Wireless-G" in order to work.
