We are pretty sure liquid water flowed on Mars millions of years ago. It is now a "Dead" planet, (no internal magma or magnetic fields) becuase it is "Dead" with out a magnetic field, cosmic radiation cooked off all surface liquid water long ago. Any liquid water would have to be beneath the surface, or maybe as a solid. Time will tell. I suspect that when we have the mining resources available and drill down deep into the surface, microbial life remains. I probably won/t be around to see it, but who knows. If true, then will be a huge shock to the religious community. The scientific community already expects to find life elsewhere.

I am just thrilled to pieces by it!!! I hope I am still alive when they find the first life on another planet. I know that the universe is FULL of life. I try to imagine all the different forms it must take, and I almost go crazy.
Wow, water on another planet. I also think there is life on Mars at a microbiological level.
I see some of these answers show they did not even look at your links. I find it sad that kids can't even get excited about something like this.

50 years ago NASA had photos that showed a face on Mars. It had to be built by people that inhabited Mars. Now, we have had a rover on the planet and all it has found is rock and dust. No old Beatles albums, no McDonalds wrappers, nothing but rock and dust. Don't you think the rover would have spotted a little water somewhere? I think NASA just wants to up the budget again.

Yep. Very interesting. Our understanding of Mars has changed so much over the past decade, and this is another wonderful discovery by the MGS. Just imagine even more amazing data and facts we will learn from other mars probes like the MRO and the future rovers...

What is this, 2006 still? Well, it's not that long before they find life on Mars, then.

Very cool! Next we need to send a probe that can drill down a bit. The rovers have uncovered evidence of similar deposits before - too bad they can't go very deep.

fascinating...stunning...don't think that there is life there now..but may have in the past..may again in the future...Love those photos of the craters NASA has been releasing..we would be the little arrogant little humans to think that only our planet can/has sustained life...it just probably didn't look like us....but water..yeah..one just doesn't get those erosion patterns without something fliud moving down....

i think its pretty intresting.
in a couple centuries. we will have "squeezed" planet earths natural resources dry out.
water on mars is just what we need to possible start a new generation of mankind.
maybe.
but there is still a chance.

i think that the NASA is just waisting money... if there is water on there SO WHAT? finding water on another planet will not help the current issues on our planet... unless we learn from the UFO how to have a stable and good govenment

It's going to be a long time before we can buy it in bottles at our local supermarket. In the mean time, we should be spending all that money on doing something to clean up the planet we're on.
