I thinkyou are confusing "hating Islam" with "hating fanatical Muslims". However, it is an unfortunate HUMAN (not just the US) trait to easily mistrust and be afraid of what you do not know or understand. That can easily lead to hate if your religious or civil leaders say that you should hate a particular religion or group. Look what happened in Nazi Germany...
Evangelists hate Islam because it is not a Christian religion. Heck, they hate any religion that is not fundamentalist! Do not judge the majority of moderate, accepting Americans by what "statistics" (that can be manipulated very easily) show. Most average Americans, because of media spin equate Islam with terrorism. They do not understand that true Islam does not preach hatred and destruction of one's enemies. It is unforunate that the majority of high-profile terrorists at this time are also fundamentalist Moslem...but that is how it is.

We watch the mounting death toll of Islamic murders, daily, on Yahoo.
You are trying to shift blame by mentioning evangelists.
The most vocally anti-Islamic person I know is from an officially Islamic country in the middle east.

As an atheist, I can't stand religion, period. That said, I don't harbor any hate towards muslims and Islam, and I don't have a problem with people practicing religion, so long as it doesn't infringe on others. I'm no expert on Islam, but I know more about it than most people here in the U.S. do.
By the way, I read a recent report about Americans' views on Islam. Most (70%+) don't have a problem being neighbors with muslims.

I wouldn't say Americans hate Islam. Only the ones on Opinion News shows. Those people hate anything where they have to stop yelling, and read /listen to understand.

All Americans do not hate Islam. Many Americans are misinformed about what Islam means. I think this latter is the root of the problem.

First of all, this is a generalization. All Americans don't hate Islam. Only the ignorant ones do. I am an American who believes in Christianity and married a Muslim. My husband and I agreed to respect each others differences. Neither he nor I impose our beliefs on each other. I don't mind going to a mosque, and he's visited a church with me on several occassions. We decided to not marry in a religious establishment. We believe in being moderate and open-minded. I don't believe I will ever convert nor he will. That's fine with me. When we have children, we want them to decide. We are not religious. We believe there is one God. One thing I've had a problem with is that women should cover. I know that not all Muslim women do. My husband's uncle's Moroccan wife who is a devout Muslim does not. He doesn't believe in it either. Nevertheless, I believe in respecting other's differences. There is no rule that says that everyone should share my opinion. I don't believe in the Muslim prophets, but that gives me no right to denounce them. That's where respect comes into play. Any other questions?

No relegion profess hatred and Islam isn't an exception. Hindu faith has its beginning in the sub continent of Hindustan and consequently inherited the cultures of India. Islam is from the deserts and inherited the form of existence of the midsection east. Idol worship replaced into objected to by the Muslims, as a results of fact they suspect that it quite is a SIN to worship an Idol, on an identical time as GOD has no variety or shape. This concept in them feels extra pissed off, if some one does such worship. They criticise, as a results of fact they are no longer able to make certain some one committing a Sin (in accordance to them). on the different hand Hinuism accepts Idol worship, however the non secular concept additionally endorses GOD to be Arupam or with none variety. it quite is as a results of fact, Hindu Philosophy regarded the choose for concentration throughout the time of prayers and the undemanding guy has the hardship to pay interest without visualising the GOD. to that end, it quite is prudent to understand the pissed off expressions of Zakir Naik, as a desperate attempt to cajole his concept of Islam on people who have self assurance extra on the advantages of doing Idol Worship. this could additionally be a normal thank you to get the prevalent public interest, by being harsh than by reasoning out Logically. i for my area have self assurance that GOD could be prayed by any approach, till at last the time it quite is a Prayer and not a hate transmission.

I think the reason that most Americans hate Islam is that all they think about are terrorist acts. Instead of seeing the religion for what it truly is, they only think of the Muslims that are actually trouble causing radicals and not good people.

What statistics? I don't know a single person that I would say hates Islam. But then again, I hang out with well educated people.
Please don't judge all Americans by the few who do bad things.

Most people will hate what that don't understand. It is the lack of education in people plus every religion will try to suppress any other religion by preaching lies about it.
