I just turned 26 and was diagnosed with uterine fibroids (25cm-very large!) My OB-Gyn has ordered my a Lupron Injection (scheduled for Friday 12/08/06) it is suppose to shrink the fibroids by pushing me into early menopause and save my fertility-I have no children as of yet, but my dream is to have my own family one day. I have read many horrible reports on Lupron and have done a little reading up on alternatives and came across Myomectomy. I read that they can take the fibroids out of uterus no matter the size, #, or location---This seems much better of an option for me. If anyone has had this done, please tell me your experiences. I kind of feel obligated to get the injection because he already ordered it for me and it is very expensive-I do not want him to deny me as a patient if I refuse it and bring up this other option. Someone please give me advice, this is all new to me and I am scared to death and in alot of pain! I do not know what I need to do or what to say to my Dr. - TY

Again, you do not need to feel obligated to having the lurpon injection just because your Doc has ordered it. Before he/she ordered it, he/she should have gone through all the options with you, and taken into consideration, the fact that you would like to bear children. If you go into early menopause, how can you bear children? My advice is for you to visit this excellent website and compare all the alternative ways your Myoma's can be treated.

I wish you well and good luck.

I am sorry I cannot offer any advice on your condition or which treatment you should use. I just want to tell you that you DO NOT have to feel obligated to get the Lupron injection simply because the doc already ordered it. You are the patient and you have the right to thoroughly discuss all treatment options and be fully informed BEFORE you make your decision. If he is worthy of being your doc, then he will sit and with you and discuss the pros and cons of both treatments and help you decide which one is best for you. If he "denies" you as a patient because you refuse the Lupron and ask about myomectomy - then go elsewhere for the second opinion you are due by law under any insurance plan. As a patient and human being, you have rights - stand up for them, and do not feel bad about doing what is best for yourself. Good luck.

Dr. John Lee http://www.johnleemd.com saw great success in treating fibroids with progesterone cream! Look into it before you do anything drastic like Lupron or surgery.

Fibroids are estrogen-driven, and can usually be treated by merely opposing the estrogen overload with the body's own "anti-estrogen" - progesterone.

The problem with fibroid tumors can simply be resolved by restoring proper progesterone levels, which restores normal growth and shedding of the endometrium.

Recommendations for healing fibroids by Dr. John Lee:

WHAT TO DO:
*Use natural progesterone cream.
*Eat a plant-based, fiber rich diet (at least 20-30g fiber per day)
*Take a liver-supporting and detoxifying herbal formula that includes the following herbs: Bupleurum, milk thistle (silybum marianum), barberry or goldenseal, burdock root, yellow dock, dandelion root.
*Take a uterus-healing herbal formula that includes some or all of the following herbs: myrrh, red raspberry, cayenne, Bupleurum, yarrow, vitex and lady's mantle (Alchemilla mollis)
*Use a castor oil pack 2-4 times a week (many books on herbal healing have instructions on how to make and use a castor oil pack.)

WHAT TO AVOID:
*Unopposed estrogen
*Dairy products
*Feed-lot meats (eat only range-fed, organic meats free of drugs and pestiside residue)
*Coffee (heavily sprayed with DDT)
