After all, poor White trailer trash can't claim racism so why should uneducated ghetto thug trash be allowed that leeway?

Educated and successful White people look at trailer trash meth junkies and call them what they are.

Why do educated Blacks have trouble doing the same?

Most blacks in the ghettos use terms from the slavery days and dont even realize it.

The slave terms they use is a sign of a slave mentality that has trickled down from one generation to the next.

Most blacks in the ghettos are the ones saying "get over slavery" The educated blacks are more aware of slavery and some actually dwell on it.

well, I would like to start by saying most poor white "trailer trash" do claim racism. They just attack it as affirmative action. They **** and moan about how some [insert derogatory term for minority here] stole their job, and the government is doing nothing but coddling minorities.

Secondly, while many "ghetto thug" blacks chose that life (they say it's easier to collect food stamps or whatever, than to actually get a job), just as many are trapped in the system. They grow up in a bad area, attend the worst schools with the most overworked teachers, administrators and social workers, experience the most violent, aren't taught what they need to know, and get thrown out into the world where the vicious cycle starts again.

There are plenty of people in the U.S. who aren't getting a fair shake. Those of us who are lucky enough, should be thankful that it's not us. We also have to reach back and lend a hand. I'm not saying be a sucker. Have discernment, but also have compassion. Everybody needs a chance.

You know I read the comments here and this is really such a thought provoking statement. Unfortunately, it is so terribly true. I wonder if it is hard for us to openly admit this to being true. Is it for fear or ridicule from others that we are "Uncle Tomming" it? Or is it because we are ashamed and prefer to pretend that part of society does not exist because it cuts too close to "home?"

Some of these cases revolve around the "nature vs nurture" controversy. While some people are affected by society, some are just manipulating the system and though we know this is true, we do not like to admit it. When you compare it with another group that has been labeled derogatory terminology, you see that it is what it is.

Yes, it's difficult to admit this, perhaps because we are wondering how it happened. Some of us were born from parents that worked hard, were contributors to society and raised the children with the same moral values and ethics. What in the world happened? Why did 2 out 7 children get college degrees while the other 5 went to the streets? Granted 1 of the 5 pulled out and became "something" instead of letting the ghetto swallow him up; a ghetto he was never in. Those children had children who quickly embraced the comforts of a system they were taught to avoid.

Can't you see? This is a question we ask ourselves, yet we have no answer. We don't blame society, either. We dislike that they are claiming to be victims. We hate that they are living on the system. We've tried to help them. It is perplexing to watch members of your family get comfortable with a system that they were never taught to manipulate; in fact were taught to "do better." For my experience, I have a theory what happened but this is not the forum to explore it. I just thought I could give an answer.

I don't think anyone wants to admit it for reasons that hit too close to home and make you ashamed.

Ok im guessing ur white and u came from a suburban area right? Everyone comments on gangstas and thugs because they're scared thats why people hate because they're scared. U get mad because u have to turn ur head or walk a different way because there is a gangsta or gangstas in ur way, its not right but thats how it is. I can tell by the way u write that ur angry and scared. U have to get use to it, u cant change it. The goverment is jus a big gang too, they steal ur money, they make u give them money, they go into other territories and try to take over. This is why people are scared of the goverment because they know that they cant do anything about it.

To say thugs or gangstas are dumb is pretty dumb of u. ive been in the streets and i live in a pretty bad part of town right now. If ur from northern california then u would know who the nortenos are. They r on every corner, but there is nuthin u can do about it. I never turn my head or nuthin because i have respect for them and they have respect for me. Thats how it goes, respect.

Race is SUCH a sensitive topic in this country, that's why. I think it's residual guilt from the Civil War era. You can criticize a white person or population endlessly, but everybody squirms when you even as so much question a black person. It's really outdated if you think about it. Blacks have no more reason to keep playing the race card anymore than whites do to feel ashamed of things their great-great-great grandparents did. (And that's IF our ancestors were even living in the US at the time!) We all need to grow up and move on past this slave-master mentality.

You are right. Resources to do better are available to those that want it and willing to work for it. The problem is, some don't want to put in the effort. There are very few valid excuses for failure. Liberal ideas only keep the ignorant at status quo.

not all people who live in the ghetto are "losers". not all poor white people are "trailer trash". the fact remains that you can't group everyone together and generalize.
