I think gift certificates to the movies or to a restaurant they enjoy attending. It is like you are treating them to a night on the town! They certainly don't need kitchen appliances.

A Gift Certificate to a local Hotel that is doing a New Years Party (The Dinner/Room Package thing) for a GREAT Romantic Newlywed New Years. If that is out of your budget, try finding out what their favorite restaurant is and give them a gift certificate from there.
Did they just move into a new house/condo/apartment that they are allowed to decorate? If you are creative/handy whatever offer services to assist them with getting their home into shape.
Money is also a good idea. There may be something that they are wanting to purchase but just a few dollars short of actually purchasing it.
Do they have a tree? Ornaments of various colors, designs, etc. Even Holiday decorations in general are great gifts.
I hope this helps, and GOOD LUCK with everything!

Offer to help them write their Thank You Cards. Or if they just moved into a new place together, help them unpack, or clean the house for them while thier at work one day. Anything that helps them out and lets them spend more time on each other, because that's what newly weds really want. It depends on how close you are to the couple. None material things are great though for that couple that just got everything lol.

You can never go wrong with food, or gift cards. Let them decide what they would like.
here's one.
I bought someone an American Express gift card, that way they can use it anywhere they want, for golfing, shopping, personal items, etc.
good luck, hope they like whatever you get them.

I know this is so "cliche" but the same thing happened to me and I did a romantic movie nite basket---wine, cheese, crackers, chocolate--plus their favorite DVD. I put wine glasses, cheese board and knife, a scented candle, etc. (okay, I did throw in a bottle of flavored massage oil!)
