No, everything about you is normal, my son's a computer engineer, he further did his MS in the USA, he had the same problems as you from beginning, he would make mistakes in the small things but never in the complex ones, so be cool it's ok

If you're a poor speller, the important thing is to know where you can go to find the correct spellings. (Dictionary, spell-check, etc.) Doesn't matter whether you're a computer engineer or a plumber--how you present yourself will leave an impression on others. As for the math problem, it sounds like you've come up with a good compensation for your problem--as long as you arrive at the right answer and aren't required to do it with speed, just keep doing whatever works for you. At least you can get the answer from your head--lots of people have to use a calculator! It reminds me of . . . guess what . . . spellling! Most people have certain words that always trip them up, no matter how many times they try to learn it. (I have always been a very good speller, by the way, have had a lot of education, and am no kid . . . but I STILL cannot remember how to spell certain words. For example: restaurant/restaraunt and license/lisence. It may be that your spelling difficulty and math problem are connected. If you're in honors classes and have a 4.0, it sounds like you're compensating quite well . . . so just keep on doing whatever you're doing, know WHERE you can get the information that won't stick in your brain, keep trying to improve your skills, and you will continue to do well. Keep up the good work!

I am an engineer. Some math I can do, and people are amazed - "WOW HOW DID YOU THAT!?!?". But then when comes to adding an even + an odd number that add equal more than 10 (eg, 5+8 or 6+7), I always have to think for several seconds, at least. If thats weird, then we're in the same boat (and you must be normal!).

Well, there's lots of math involved in computer engineering, but if you have an A in math, you're doing fine, it's not as hard as everyone makes it out to be if you really focus. In the real world, noone is going to be standing over your shoulder analyzing your mathematical abilities....
The only real spelling you'll need to worry about is the programming language that you use, and it's totally different than English - leave the spelling to the technical writers and good for you for aiming high. :)

I think that your Math and Spelling abilities are fine. Its okay to not know 7 x 4 immediately. And, its okay to not be the best speller. You can always use spell check with your documents.

As long as you know how to spell check, you will be fine but it is scary that you don't know your times tables.
